I discovered the wildflower pictured above in our woods near Bonnie’s grave. The leaves are purplish, which doesn’t really come through in the photo I took. The flowers are white and the stamen is very pale yellow, almost beige, five petals per flower.
I’ve combed my wildflower books and scoured the internet and still haven’t been able to determine what this plant is. If anyone could help, I would be indebted. Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks to Amanda, who correctly named the plant as a wood anemone. I looked at that one in my plant book, but the photo showed the leaves as being a distinct green, whereas in real life, they ARE purplish. Thank you again, Amanda!

Stawberry? More plant would help. Look for runners with red tinge.

No, it’s not a strawberry. We have tons of wild strawberries all over the place here. This one has no runners of any sort. The leaves are not green like a strawberry’s. They are purplish, almost the color of a Wandering Jew, and somewhat irregular. Matte, not glossy, but without the texture of a strawberry plant. Some of the leaves are almost mitten-like, similar to the outline of Michigan. The plant grows very close to the ground with the little flower about 3-4″ above it. The flowers are somewhat sparse…one for every six or eight of the clustered plants. Thank you for trying, though, Stef.

Ours get purplish. I will have to see about getting you a batch of images before too long and maybe include one to show you.
