Coof Positive
My beloved wife has the Covid. She’s positive for the ‘Rona. She has been stricken with The Chinese Lung Aids (hat tip to Ann Barnhardt for that little phrase). She all eat up wif de Coof. She’s been smitten with the Birdemic. She’s been assaulted by the Kung Flu, laid low by the Chyna Vyrus.
She developed a fever last night and was very achey and flu-ish. We did a home test that we’d been given and we got the positive result in 10 minutes. The main concern has been chest congestion, which is the one thing that truly causes her distress. We’ve been treating her with Ivermectin (again, thanks, Ann) and a Z-pack, along with a battery of vitamins (D3,C,K, zinc, cough syrup, etc). She got a good, long nap today and seems to be a teeny-tiny bit improved, but I’m watching her closely. Her spirits are high and she expressed to me the hope that if this really IS the Black Death, she will hear the very voice of the malady itself, and that it will have Samuel L. Jackson’s voice, and it will be muttering, “We gonna give duh Covit to Miz O, an’….wait a muhfun’ minnit…she from Texas? Like in Walker, Texas Ranger Texas? Like in duh Alamo, Texas? Oh, hell, naw! We leavin...”
I kid, of course, and I am concerned for her, of course. But I can’t help but replay in my mind the reactions of some of my coworkers when they came up coof-positive in the past couple of years. Complete and immediate meltdowns, with tears, wailing, calls to attorneys to draw up Last Wills & Testaments, emails to fabric shops to enquire about the availability of black crepe and tulle. And then, after they suffered the indignity of the sniffles for a few days and fully recovered, not one single moment of normal, self-aware chagrin. Just marchin’ on through with belligerence and the new, high status as a survivor of Covid.
I’m not foolish enough to completely dismiss the possibility that Mrs. Orr could develop more dire symptoms and that her condition could worsen. But as tough and stoic as that little lady is, I’d look like a fool if I started prancing around her with the “Whattre We Gonna Doooooooooo?” vapors and a St. Vitus dance. So we’re making sure she gets plenty of rest, gets dosed with the appropriate things, and enjoying our enforced Covacation together.
The cold feels extra-bitter right now, so it’s time to fire up the wood stove and settle in as the birds return to our porch eaves and the dogs digest their suppers and the dying light makes the books on the shelves look mellow and inviting and constant.

Here are a few cut and pastes from the linked article:
Researchers from the University of Florida in the U.S. noted that the combination includes diphenhydramine, an antihistamine used for allergy symptoms.
When paired with lactoferrin, a protein found in cow and human milk, the compounds were found to hinder SARS-CoV-2 during tests in monkey cells and human lung cells, they said.
Individually, the two compounds each inhibited SARS-CoV-2 virus replication by about 30%, they said, adding that together, they reduced virus replication by 99%.

Thank you, Craig!

You’re in our prayers, as always. Let us know if you need anything. We’re just over the mountains.
Here’s a good trick for congestion that the hospital taught us during our son’s pneumonia: give your upper chest several good firm thumps with a closed hand several times a day. Like a Catholic “Through my fault…” but with more enthusiasm. Another person could also do it, but on the upper back, gently with an open hand. It works wonders for mechanically loosening all the gunk.

Heather! So good to hear from you. We appreciate your prayers and generosity. True friends, y’all are…
Interesting trick regarding congestion. I’ve archived it mentally and will use it if the situations requires it.
Mrs. Orr and I send our warmest regards to you and your lovely family.
Carol
Will be keeping you both in my prayers!
Also, re: chest congestion –
I just nursed my husband thru something, which I’m pretty sure was Covid
(we found out the home tests can register ‘false’ negatives, so I ‘treated’ him as if positive)
Anyway, I was determined that he not get sick enough for hospital, and one thing I added to the vitamin, etc. ‘protocol’ was the supplement NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)
https://nutritionw.com/nac-n-acetyl-cysteine-natural-lung-health-support/
It’s an amino acid which has been shown to be particularly effective for lung/respiratory health
(lots of info at above link)
Also, with regard to cough syrup – something a nurse advised me years ago was to make sure ‘not’ to use the ‘multi-ingredient’ syrups…
..this is because you only want to ‘suppress’ the cough (what the dextromethorphan in cough syrup is for) when trying to sleep.
Whereas during waking hours it’s very important to keep coughing stuff ‘out’ of the lungs –
– so to keep coughs ‘productive’ in daytime, you want to use a product with only “Guaifenesin” (a brand name is “Mucinex”) in it.
Even with all the supplements you guys are doing & the above, It took a bit over two weeks for my husband to be completely well –
– but it helped that his cough never progressed to the point that we had to worry about hospitalization, so that’s something.
Best wishes S.K. and Mrs. Orr!

Carol, I really appreciate your prayers and especially your recommendations. Your remarks confirmed what my wife’s research showed in terms of cough syrups and we’ve been following that exact path.
Didn’t recall reading about NAC, but I’m checking out the link you provided. Again, many thanks for everything. Your husband is a blessed man…I’m glad he recovered and hope you BOTH stay strong and healthy.

The two of you will be in my prayers, as always.

Thank you, William…I appreciate your prayers and friendship, as always. I think we’ll be fine. I just wish I could figure out a way to claim some sort of lucrative victim status out of this experience. Post traumatic scam disorder? Something like that? Hmmm….

Hi S.K.,
My prayers are with Mrs. Orr and you.

Judging by what you have done already, I don’t think Mrs. Orr will get worse, and you probably already know this, but do not, under any circumstances, let a doctor give her Remdesivir.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for the prayers and good wishes, Craig. I couldn’t read the article to which you linked, because it wanted me to disable my ad blocker and become a subscriber.
But I do know that Remdesivir is bad news. Ivermectin and our other supplements are working well, so we’ll continue along. We won’t see a doctor unless one of us is bleeding out, missing a limb, or having seizures. If one of us goes into cardiac arrest, the other knows to find some Billy Gilman or Bjork songs on the internet and dial ’em up to 11.
Thanks again for thinking of us.
