Saturday Before Holy Week
The day was odd. After mild temperatures all week, today saw snow all day, on and off, until about 5 pm. Sunny one minute, confectioners sugar in a tornado the next. It frosted last night and I covered Mrs. Orr’s new roses. I will do the same again tonight, because they are leafy and lush and thriving. One dislikes seeing good work undone.
I’m uncomfortable in the shackles of the awareness that I’m almost three days late in posting my most recent memoir entry. I have half a draft ready and will, unless books and dogs and chores distract me, finish up tomorrow night and post it.
I don’t listen to modern country music at all, as it seems to be heavily influenced by the baser elements of modern music. The formula for today’s “country” music seems to be a hip-hop backbeat with the words “girl” and “world” thrown in, with the occasional “dirt road” and “tractor” to give it hick cred. Today while running an errand, I tuned into a small indie radio station out of Whitesburg, Kentucky, and heard a toe-tapping, hard-driving tune by a fellow named Chris Stapleton. It caught my attention. Soon as I got home, I came in and looked up some more of his music and found a nice tune about a dog, called “Maggie’s Song,” with harmony vocals by the always sweet Texas gal Miranda Lambert. Thought I’d offer it here, with apologies for the goober playing drums and wearing a face diaper.
Rest well tonight, and I hope none of you has to look too hard to find the good and the beautiful in your personal lives.

Take a look at Serenade Radio on the puter. It is a variety of easy listening with a number of different shows and hosts.
Also check out Stapleton’s “Starting Over” on the same album as “Maggie”.
I definitely agree about “modern” country music.
This country has gone crazy.

Lewis! Thank you, my dear friend, for the tip about Serenade Radio. Mrs. Orr and I just tuned in and loved it right away. Just wonderful. Enjoyed the Chris Stapleton song as well. I knew nothing about him except he sang a great song at the end of one of my favorite movies (“Hell or High Water”). Been listening this afternoon and really enjoying his music. Many thanks, brother.
